SWINDON Town officially signed the contract for the site of Twelve Oaks golf course in Highworth on Tuesday afternoon, bringing an end to the club’s long search for a training ground location.

The Robins had an agreement in place to purchase the land earlier in the year, following the passing of the previous owner Doug Grant.

After moving on from their previous Liddington base, the club entered a three-year deal with the Beversbrook facility which they currently occupy, though a long term location has always been a key priority for chairman Lee Power and his team.

Speaking to BBC radio Wiltshire earlier in the week, Power revealed his pride and excitement in the deal finally being put in place.

“It’ll probably be the biggest thing to happen to the football club in many years to have a first-class training facility,” he said.

“It’s really good news.

“It all starts with the signing of the contracts.

“We’ve looked everywhere and we’re delighted,” Power added.

The plans for how the grounds within the facility are going to be transformed to meet the demands of Swindon Town are yet to be officially finalised.

Club officials are set to meet in the coming weeks to discuss the issue further and determine how the new acquisition can be best capitalised upon to bring maximum benefits and progression to the football club.

Swindon have also reportedly agreed to put the name of the previous owner, a keen sporting fanatic, up on a location around the complex once its development is complete, as means of a gesture and tribute.
